Chief Financial Officer – Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea



Do you have accounting and management background? Would you like to use your work experience and training to support the work of Bible translation? We have an urgent need for a Chief Finance Officer to oversee our organization’s entire finance operations in Papua New Guinea. Not only does this organization oversee Bible translation in the country, it also runs a support center, which is a community of about 1000 people and several regional centers.


The activities include oversight of the finances of a school, auto shop, store, air services, print shop, construction department, and regional centers and a host of other small departments. Duties of the position include: preparation of annual budget; financial advisor to the Branch directorate; preparation of year-end financial statements and notes; oversight of monthly and annual closing of the accounting records; monthly analysis of operations compared to budget; review and modification of policies related to financial issues; assist auditors; oversight of inventory verifications.

Position Description:
Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of our organization’s accounting operation so that it effectively serves the work of Bible translation in the country.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversees all accounting system components including the chart of accounts, internal controls, transaction recording procedures, consolidations, and reporting (both internal and external).
  • Preparation of the annual budget.
  • Financial advisor to the SIL-PNG directorate.
  • Preparation of year-end financial statements and notes.
  • Oversight of monthly and annual closing of the accounting records.
  • Monthly analysis of operations compared to budget.
  • Review and modification of policies related to financial issues.
  • Assist auditors.
  • Oversight of inventory verifications.
  • Oversees all accounting system components including the chart of accounts, internal controls, transaction recording procedures and reporting (both internal and external).
  • Supervise staff to accomplish assigned activities.

Position Education and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of these areas: Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Economics or Business field or equivalent experience.
  • CPA.
  • Three or more years of experience as an accounting manager.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of computers including the Microsoft Suite, (good knowledge of Excel) and standard finance software systems.

Experience:

  • Two or more years of experience as an accounting manager.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of computers including the Microsoft Suite, (good knowledge of Excel) and standard finance software systems.
